ESSAY AND THESIS WRITING
Students are required to write a dizzying array of essays and other written projects over the course of their academic careers. Speed Reading
One of the most common complaints that we hear from students of all ages is that they read too slowly. So, Ascendant now offers instructional lessons in Speed Reading. This skill is not a panacea, but by focusing on an individual's reading speed and level of comprehension, students of all ages can make their studies more meaningful and time-efficient, and their lives easier. Studying Skills
Many students make a sincere effort in their classes, only to make no progress or improvement. When they ask their teachers for help, the inevitable response is "study harder". However, studying a book is not like breaking rocks with a sledgehammer- you can't simply do it "harder" to do it better. Studying is a skill like anything else, and at Ascendant, we help students of all ages acquire the necessary skills to make their studying effective. We don't teach by rote, rather, we give students these skills so that they can move forward and succeed on their own in the long run. WRITTEN AND SPOKEN RHETORIC
One of Ascendant Tutoring's main goals is to ensure that our students do not simply learn by rote. Rather, we attempt to give them the tools to reason through difficult problems. By doing so, they are better able to reason through academic situations and standardized exams, and real life situations. Ascendant tutors also instruct students in spoken rhetoric for speech and debate, as well as the practical skills required for being an effective public speaker. INTERNET RESEARCH AND Vital COMPUTER SKILLS
For most projects and papers, students no longer need to go to a library or other physical location to do their research. However, having the internet does not automatically make a student an expert at finding information. Ascendant tutors give students the skills necessary for successful research: differentiating reputable from untrustworthy sources, knowing what terms to search for and how to use and properly exploit search engines, proper citation, and more. In addition, Ascendant tutors helps students to become proficient in the use of computer programs vital to success: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, as well as the corresponding programs on Apple and Google platforms.
